Excursions
Embark on a journey through millennia of geological history along the shores of Lake Sarmiento. A scenic 40-minute drive leads to the trailhead, where our trek begins, alternating between steep and flat terrain before reaching the lake. Lake Sarmiento hosts ancient thrombolites, rare formations found in select global locations due to specific formation conditions. During spring, vibrant wildflowers adorn the landscape, and fortunate visitors may encounter Patagonian wildlife such as guanacos, ñandús, or even condors, sometimes accompanied by their young.

Laguna Azul boasts prime vantage points for stunning views of the Torres (Towers). Our journey begins at a deep blue lagoon surrounded by a small wetland teeming with diverse bird species. Next, we'll explore Paine Waterfall, the park's main tributary, known for its powerful glacial waters. Finally, we'll visit the shores of Laguna Amarga, characterized by its high pH levels and stromatolite formations. With luck, we might even catch a glimpse of flamingos gracing the landscape.

We depart from the hotel at 7 am, embarking on a 1 hour and 45-minute drive to Grey Lake, where we board a catamaran bound for Grey Refuge. A 1.5-hour trek north through lenga forests brings us to two hanging bridges offering views of the glacier, part of the Southern Ice Field. Continuing south along a section of the renowned W trek, we eventually arrive at Paine Grande Lodge. From there, a 30-minute catamaran ride to Pudeto awaits, where our driver meets us for the return journey to Tierra Patagonia.

We start our journey by leaving the hotel towards Pudeto, where we board a catamaran crossing Lake Pehoé to Paine Grande, marking the beginning of our trek to Valle Francés. Along a narrow, stony path near Paine Grande Mountain, we'll encounter Lake Skottsberg and the majestic Cuernos (Horns). After 7 kilometers, we cross the French River, ascend through a forest, and marvel at the "French Glacier" cascading from Paine Grande. At the Plateau scenic lookout, we enjoy a box lunch with views of Paine Grande and the granite formations of the Cuernos. We return via the same path, reaching the catamaran for our journey back to the hotel.

The Base of the Towers trek, the third part of the W trail, is a must-do for avid hikers. Starting with a steep climb following the Ascensio River to Paso de los Vientos, the trail then levels out along a steep mountainside until reaching the Chileno refuge. The path continues through a shaded lenga forest before the final ascent up a rocky hillside. The challenging climb is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the iconic Towers that give Torres del Paine National Park its name. While not technically difficult, this hike requires good physical fitness.

The Cuernos trail is an excellent option to experience the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. This gentle 2-hour walk showcases the magnificent Cuernos and Paine Grande peaks, beloved by all visitors. Starting with a 50-minute drive from the hotel, the trail leads to the stunning turquoise waters of Salto Grande. The walk continues to a scenic overlook where you can admire Nordenskjöld Lake, the park's second largest, and the impressive French Valley opposite it.
This excursion takes you through Torres del Paine National Park, offering views of all the main sites. Marvel at the distinctive 'horns' of the Paine Massif, and explore the nothofagus woodland before reaching Grey Lake. Here, you'll board a catamaran to sail towards the impressive 19-kilometer-long Grey Glacier, known for its intense ice colors. After a lunch with panoramic views at a local restaurant, we will return to the hotel, stopping at various viewpoints along the way. This tour is subject to the seasonal operation of sailings and weather conditions on Grey Lake. Advance booking is required.
